Meet the Providers
You will find our office located behind Western Wake Hospital, in the Cary Medical Park. Our staff consists of six providers with their backgrounds, education, and experience listed below.
Dr. Mazen E. Hamad, MD
Dr. Hamad was born and raised in Syria. Dr. Hamad completed his medical degree at the University of Damascus in 1976, and relocated to the United States in 1980. In 1981, Dr. Hamad started his residency in Internal Medicine and Neurology at the University of Louisville and completed his residency in Family Medicine at East Tennessee in 1985. Dr. Hamad started his employment at Kaiser Permanente in Southern California in 1985. He then moved to Raleigh in 1990, and was appointed Lead Physician for Kaiser at the West Raleigh office and then headed the Kaiser clinic in Cary from 1997 through 2001. He continued his employment with Kaiser until they closed their doors in 2001. On March 1, 2001, Mazen Hamad, MD established Cary Healthcare Associates, PA as President and Lead Physician. He is a clinical instructor and adjunct faculty in family practice at UNC Chapel Hill and Duke University. In 1998, Duke awarded Dr. Hamad the Best Community Teacher Award. Dr. Hamad is NC Board Certified in Family Practice and also is a member of the NC and Wake County Medical Societies.
Kenneth D. Lake, PA-C
Ken Lake is a Certified Physician Assistant, born and raised in Long Island, New York. He completed his undergraduate education at Sheppard AFB, Texas, in 1974. Mr. Lake continued and completed his education for Physician Assistant at the Naval Hospital in San Diego, CA, retiring from the U.S. Navy in 1989. He is credentialed as a Paramedic Instructor and was an Advanced Cardiac Life Support and American Heart Basic Life Support Instructor at Kaiser Permanente until 1999. Ken Lake is a former American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support Instructor and is presently part of the adjunct faculty at UNC Chapel Hill, ECU, Wake Forest, and Campbell Universities.
Renee Callea, PA-C
Renee Callea is a Certified Physician's Assistant, born in St. Louis, Missouri. She attended the University of New York at Buffalo and completed her BS degree at D'Youville College in Buffalo in 1996. During college, Ms. Callea worked with Alzheimer's patients, stroke victims, and Parkinson patients in an assisted living environment and an Adult Day Care Center. Ms. Callea has six years of experience as a Physician Assistant. Renee joined Cary Healthcare Associates in April 2001.
Candace Chitsaz, FNP
Candace Chitsaz is a Family Nurse Practitioner, born and raised in Raleigh, NC. Candace graduated from East Carolina University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing and worked as a high risk obstetrics nurse for several years. She completed her Masters degree in Nursing at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a special focus on family and women's health and received her certification by the Board of Medicine as a Family Nurse Practitioner. She joined Cary Healthcare Associates in August of 2003.
Dr. Young
Dr. Young earned her Bachelor of Science in Biotechnology from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Massachusetts in 1997, and her Medical Degree in 2001 from the University of Iowa College of Medicine. She completed a residency in Family Medicine at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro in 2004. Dr. Young is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and the American Medical Association. She has a special interest in women's health, pediatrics, and preventive care.
Dr. Youngin Gilmore
Dr. Gilmore is a certified Family Physician, practicing with Cary Healthcare Associates since January 2008. She was born in Korea, raised in the Chicago suburbs, and received her bachelor's degree at Northwestern University. She graduated from Rush Medical College in Chicago, IL, in 1997 in the top quarter of her class, and completed her residency in Family Medicine at Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke's Medical Center in Chicago. She served as Chief Resident her final year and was awarded "Teacher of the Year." Dr. Gilmore practiced in Lindenhurst, IL, before moving to the Triangle area in early 2008. Her special interests are children, adolescents and women. She welcomes new patients, and especially desires to treat you as a whole person.
Maggie Thibodeau, BA, ND
Maggie Thibodeau, BA, ND graduated as a Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine from the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine in Toronto, ON. She has completed eight years of university study including a degree in Psychology from the University of Western Ontario. Maggie holds professional memberships with the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians and the Canadian Association of Naturopathic Doctors. Maggie is also a registered Bowen Therapist and certified in using WT3 therapy. In 2006, Maggie relocated to Cary, North Carolina and established Cary Holistic Health, LLC. In addition to her independent practice, she offers consults for patients of Cary Healthcare Associates.
Steve Fuller, Pharm. D., CPP
Dr. Fuller is a Professor with the Campbell University College of Pharmacy (since 1988) and has been with this practice since 1996. He has a BS degree in Chemistry from Wake Forest University (1981), a BS in Pharmacy from the Medical College of Virginia-MCV(1985), a Doctorate of Pharmacy from MCV in 1988 and did his residency training at MCV. He has been a Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist (BCPS since 1995) and is licensed by the North Carolina Medical board as a Clinical Pharmacy Practitioner (CPP). His role at CHA is to manage anticoagulation patients and help with patients on multiple medications. In addition, he teaches the Campbell pharmacy students that come to CHA for training 8-9 months each year.
