Laser Skin Therapy
What is Skin Tightening with the Gentle YAG?
Skin tightening is a procedure by which you can have firmer, smoother skin on the face, chest, arms, stomach or other areas such as scars. By using the deep penetrating, yet safe wavelengths of light from the Candela GentleYAG laser, your skin can begin to see improvement after just one or two treatments.
How are Treatments Performed?
Generally, we will do three to five 45 minute sessions with the laser spaced 3-4 weeks apart. Each treatment covers the entire area with multiple invisible, yet powerful laser pulses. Generally, the treatment produces a warming sensation within the skin and sometimes it feels more like a rubber band snapped gently on the skin and is very comfortable and tolerable.
When Will I See Results?
Results with the GentleYAG are more predictable than with radiofrequency treatments such as Thermage. Optimal results are usually seen about 90 days to 6 months after the fourth treatment, but may be seen in as little as 1-2 weeks after the second treatment. The laser produces tightening of the skin, reduced wrinkles, improvement in elasticity, improvement in the skin texture, pore size and skin smoothness. While skin tightening with the GentleYAG is not a substitute for a face lift, it is an alternative to one. Patients who are not ready for face lift surgery or do not desire it may find this just what they are looking for. If you plan on having a face lift, Gentle YAG treatments can be used in conjunction to improve the quality of the skin, something face lift surgery cannot do.
Am I a Good Candidate for GentleYAG Skin Tightening?
The GentleYAG may be used as a stand-alone procedure or combined with our other advanced skin rejuvenation procedures such as fillers and BOTOX® Cosmetic. The GentleYAG can treat all skin types. There is no specific age limit for skin tightening in adults. If you feel you have excess, loose or sagging skin, you will likely benefit from this procedure. Also effective for acne scars, surgical scars and loose skin on the stomach, legs or arms, this procedure can be easily customized to address your problem areas.
Is There Any Downtime From GentleYAG Skin Tightening?
Generally, except for some mild temporary swelling of the skin in the first 1-2 days after the procedure, there is no downtime.
What Has Been the Feedback From Patients You Have Treated?
Patients like how their skin feels smoother after treatment with the GentleYAG. They report decreased pore size, decreased lines around the eyes, even lines in the treated areas of improved skin texture. Patients who have responded poorly to radiofrequency treatments have seen substantial benefit with the GentleYAG. Patients love it, our staff loves it. The key advantage to this procedure is no downtime, and one can have the treatment done in an hour and be back to work or play.
Laser Hair Removal
Using the state-of-the-art Candela GentleYAG laser, hair removal is easy and fast. By heating the target hair follicles in the skin, our system causes the long lasting reduction in hair over 3 to 5 treatments spaced at 4-6 week intervals.
Unlike other lasers, Candela uses a patented Dynamic Cooling Device (DCD) that uses a sophisticated computer to deliver a cooling spray to the skin with each pulse. This system makes the laser treatments very safe, especially with respect to competing systems that do not have it.
Hair grows in three distinct phases. During anagen, the growth phase, hair is rapidly growing and most vulnerable to the energy from the light source. In catagen, the transition phase, hair is growing more slowly and is not as responsive to light. Lastly, in telogen, hair is in the resting phase and nor very susceptible to light. It is for this reason that hair removal treatments are given 3-5 times and spaced outso as to allow hair follicles to transfer in to the anagen phase for treatment.
Using our lasers, hair removal can be performed on all skin types from the lightest to the darkest.
During treatment, the laser pulses feel like a bit of heat followed by a cool spray.
Using specific wavelengths of light and in an energy pattern only the Candela lasers can provide, maximum energy is delivered directly to the hair follicle while the skin is protectively cooled.
Before your treatment, avoid waxing or plucking hairs in the area to be treated. Shaving is fine. Avoid tanning for approximately 4 weeks before treatment and notify your doctor or consultant if you have a history of cold sores, take blood thinners or are pregnant.

Laser Leg Vein Reduction
How does Laser Leg Vein Reduction Work?
The Candela GYAG laser specifically targets the blood vessel with wavelengths of light. The light closes off the vessel, then the body takes away the remainder of the vessel.
How are Treatments Performed?
Usually, a series of 2-4 treatments are required at 4-6 week intervals for maximum clearance. Treatments are easy and comfortable. No specific preparation is required. GYAG treatments can be used on all skin types from the darkest to the lightest. During treatment, the laser pulses feel like a bit of heat followed by a cold spray.
What Should I Expect After Treatment?
Immediately after treatment, the areas will look pink and generally follow the pattern of the vessels removed. This will fade in 1-2 days as your body takes over to complete the process. Generally, you may return to normal activities such as walking and exercising in 1-2 days. You may return to work or to other activities immediately although you will be asked to war support hose after your treatment. Treatment of larger vessels get enhanced results with their extended use. Support hose will be prescribed to you at your consultation or you may pick them up after treatment. Protecting the treated skin from the sun during the first 1-2 weeks will reduce the change of any dark spots forming.
What are the Results?
Most leg veins treated with the laser clear immediately. Some larger vessels may take on a gray color before fading naturally away. You can expect the vessels treated at the prior visit to be mostly or all the way gone by the time you return for your next session. Some vessels are resistant and need additional treatment.
Candela lasers use a patented Dynamic Cooling Device (DCD) that uses a sophisticated computer to deliver a cooling spray to the skin with each pulse. This system makes the laser treatments very safe, especially with respect to competing systems that do not have it.
